CIAO. Siamo il team del Back To The Farm Festival.

Negli ultimi anni abbiamo studiato, imparato e amato l’ Old-Time Music.

Cos'è l’Old-Time Music, potresti chiedere. È la musica originale delle radici americane, tramandata da generazioni di musicisti rurali, in particolare negli Appalachi meridionali. Alcuni la conoscono come musica degli Appalachi o musica di montagna. È venuta prima del bluegrass, del country e del folk moderno, ma ha gettato le basi per tutt’e tre.

Perché la amiamo? Non perché sia storicamente importante (anche se lo è), o perché ci piace il banjo (anche se è vero). Amiamo l’ Old-Time Music perché è umana. Umano in un modo con cui la vita moderna ha perso il contatto. Esiste per essere suonata, ballata, cantata e apprezzata da persone normali, non da professionisti raffinati in uno studio di registrazione. È piena di dolore, amore, solitudine, bellezza, umorismo, difficoltà e speranza. (E a volte liquore!). Abbiamo tutti bisogno di un po' di musica dei “vecchi tempi” nella nostra vita.

For the past decades We’ve been studying, learning, and loving old-time music.

What is old-time music, you might ask. It’s America’s original roots music - handed down through generations of rural musicians, particularly in the southern Appalachians. Some know it as Appalachian music or mountain music. It came before bluegrass, country, and modern folk, but laid a foundation for all three.

Why do We love it? Not because it’s historically important (although it is), or because we dig the banjo (although we do). We love old-time music because it’s human. Human in a way that modern life has lost touch with. It exists to be played, danced to, sung to, and enjoyed by regular people – not polished professionals in a recording studio. It's full of grief, love, loneliness, beauty, humor, hardship, and hope. (And sometimes liquor). We all need a little old-time music in our lives.

Il Problema - The Problem

Oggi c'è ancora una scena musicale Old-Time incredibilmente ricca e meravigliosa negli Appalachi meridionali, e un po' anche nell'Europa continentale, ma quelli di noi che vivono al di fuori di queste aree fortunate hanno pochissimo accesso a questa musica.

Vogliamo un festival Old-Time qui in Italia!

O meglio, vogliamo continuare ad organizzare il nostro piccolo, ma potente, unico festival Old-Time in Italia. La storia inizia nel 2018, quando due giovani un po’ folli (Alioscia e Andrea) immaginano concerti, jam, balli e laboratori prender forma sulle colline del nord Italia. Così è nato il Back To The Farm Festival.

2018, 2019, 2023: per 3 estati, brave persone si sono riunite al BTTF per celebrare la musica, la comunità e il buon vivere. Ed è stata una bella avventura!

Tuttavia, mentre la nostra piccola festa locale è cresciuta, a causa di circostanze impreviste abbiamo perso la struttura e il luogo che ci ha ospitato e sostenuto fino ad ora. Abbiamo trovato un'alternativa davvero rustica, proprio come piace a noi. Ma servono grandi forze: ora, a quanto pare, il nostro piccolo paradiso semplicemente non è economicamente sostenibile.

Today there is still an incredibly rich and wonderful old-time music scene in southern Appalachia, a little in continental Europe too, but those of us who live outside of these fortunate areas have very little access to the music.

We want an old-time festival here in Italy!

Or rather, we want to continue organizing our small, but mighty, unique old-time festival in Italy. The story begins in 2018, when two crazy young people (Alioscia and Andrea) imagine concerts, jams, dances and workshops taking shape in the hills of northern Italy.

The Back To The Farm Festival was born.

2018, 2019, 2023: for 3 summers, good people have been gathering at BTTF to celebrate music, community, and great living. And it's been quite a run! However, while our small local festival has grown, due the unforeseen circumstances we have lost the structure and the place that has hosted and supported us until now. We found a truly rustic alternative, just how we like it. But great forces are needed: now, it seems, our little paradise is simply not economically viable.

La Soluzione - The Solution

Quindi, per far andare avanti questo improbabile e magico festival, quest'anno cambieremo le cose. Chiediamo alla nostra grande comunità BTTF, e al mondo, di unirsi e REALIZZARE QUESTO FESTIVAL. Al momento non abbiamo abbastanza soldi in banca per realizzare il BTTF 2024. Neanche ci avviciniamo. Quindi questa campagna è diventata la nostra migliore idea per aiutare tutti a fare ciò che serve per garantire che il BTTF sopravviva un altro anno e un altro ancora.

So, in order to keep this improbable, magical festival going, we're changing things up this year. We're calling on our great BTTF community, and the world, to band together and MAKE THIS FESTIVAL HAPPEN.  We currently do not have enough money in the bank to make BTTF 2024 happen. Not even close. So this campaign has become our best idea to help everybody help us do what it takes to make sure BTTF lives to see another year, and more.

Budget

Ci vogliono molti soldi per pagare i nostri grandi musicisti e molti soldi per supportare l’infrastruttura che mantiene BTTF sicura e confortevole per tutti. Ci sentiamo ancora felicemente obbligati a mantenere l’ingresso gratuito, in modo che chiunque possa permettersi di portare la propria famiglia a godersi un vero festival musicale. Inoltre, abbiamo sempre creduto nella restituzione di qualcosa alla comunità musicale e i profitti BTTF realizzati nel corso degli anni sono andati a  vari progetti musicali che promuovono e rendono popolare l’ Old-Time Music. Come potete vedere, non è il miglior modello di business…non abbiamo avviato il BTTF per arricchirci, ma solo per organizzare un grande festival di musica Old-Time e trovare una via per farlo nel miglior modo possibile.

Abbiamo basato i nostri obiettivi e la stima del prezzo su piccole esperienze passate, ma siamo sicuri che troveremo un delizioso vespaio di problemi piccoli ma impegnativi da risolvere una volta iniziato. Il fatto più rassicurante di questo viaggio tortuoso è che lavoreremo con brave persone e buona musica.

It takes a lot of money to pay our great musicians and a lot of money to support the infrastructure that keeps BTTF safe and comfortable for everyone. Yet we still feel obligated to keep admission free, so that almost anyone can afford to bring their family to enjoy a real music festival. Additionally, we believe in giving back to the music community, and BTTF profits made over the years have gone to various music projects that promote and popularize Old-Time Music. As you can see, it's not the best business model. But we didn't start the BTTF to get rich, but just to put on a great Old-Time Music Festival and find a way to do as much good as possible in the process.

We've based our goals and price estimate on little past experiences, but we’re sure we'll find a delightful little hornet's nest of small but demanding issues to work out once we begin. The most reassuring fact of this endeavor is that we'll be working with good people, and good music.

Siamo così orgogliosi dell’atmosfera assolutamente unica del BTTF, orgogliosi dell'intrattenimento musicale di prim'ordine che riceviamo ad ogni festival, e molto grati della super-comunità fantastica, adatta alle famiglie, amante delle feste e della musica che riusciamo a creare per un fine settimana nella calda estate italiana. We're so proud of our utterly unique atmosphere, proud of the top-notch musical entertainment we get every Festival, and so very proud of the cool, family-friendly, party-loving, music-loving super-community we get to create for one weekend in hot summer of Italy. We're glad that you're somehow a part of it, whether you've been to every BTTF, or even just hearing about it for the first time right here.
